Micro Startup Project: Bailey’s Boutique
Spring 2026: Essentials of Entrepreneurship
My Role
This Micro Startup Project was a semester-long project that we worked on throughout my Essentials of Entrepreneurship class. I worked independently on this project, and presented it to my class and professor at the end of the semester.
Objective
We were given “startup funding” of $10 at the beginning of the semester. Our task was to take the startup money and use the entrepreneurial strategies we were learning in class to start our own business, grow the business, and maximize profits throughout the semester.
Strategy
Crafting is something I have always been passionate about, so I decided to start a business by selling my projects. I named my business “Bailey’s Boutique” so that I wouldn’t limit the variety of products I could sell. I drew the logo for my business in Procreate and designed the slides in Canva. The following slides detail my business plan and the progress I made throughout the semester.
The Work
Results & Takeaways
With this project, I had an overall income of $31.20. I think my business would be a great idea to consider expanding. However, I would want to go back and do a more in-depth business plan to properly structure a profitable business. I think that if I had planned out some of the details more thoroughly, I could have had more success with scaling my business and having a stronger foundation.
This project taught me countless lessons. As someone who tends to take action quickly, I had to learn to pause and formulate a plan before jumping into the project. Business strategies exist for a reason, and thinking through every aspect of your business while forming a detailed and comprehensive business plan will create a solid foundation that is necessary to maintain a successful business in the long run. I also had to learn that sometimes ideas don’t turn out the way you plan to. Throughout the creation of my business, I had to adapt and change some of my tactics. This included pricing, social media strategy, and different product designs. Overall, I received a great introduction to all of the meticulous details that go into planning and starting a small-scale business.
